West Palm Beach, FL—Kevin Swan, PGA Director of Golf at The Club at Mediterra, has been named the 2024 South Florida PGA Golf Professional of the Year, the highest recognition a South Florida PGA Professional can receive. In addition to Swan, 12 SFPGA professionals are recognized as Annual Award recipients.
The Golf Professional of the Year award recognizes a PGA of America Golf Professional for overall performance, level of service to the Association, leadership, image, and ability to inspire fellow professionals and promote the game of golf.
"I am honored and humbled to receive this prestigious award," said Swan. "There are so many great professionals in our Section that are deserving of this award and to be recognized amongst them is surreal."
A graduate of Methodist University's Professional Golf Management program, Swan began his Professional Career as a Member of the Illinois Section. He then moved to the North Florida Section and eventually landed in the South Florida PGA Section as the Director of Golf at The Club at Mediterra in 2018.
As a PGA of America Golf Professional for over 15 years, Swan has been fortunate to have many great mentors throughout his career, supporting him in his journey to where he is today. Since arriving in the South Florida Section, Swan has demonstrated a strong commitment to education and mentoring, both with his staff at Mediterra and the students in the Florida Gulf Coast Professional Golf Management Program.
"The mentoring side of the business is something that I take great pride in," explained Swan. "Throughout my career, I have been driven to help fellow professionals and help them grow professionally and personally."
Outside of time spent at Mediterra, Swan, the 2022 Southwest Chapter Golf Professional of the Year, is an active Mentor in the FGCU PGM Program, and was awarded the 2023 FGCU PGM Mentor of the Year for his contributions and assistance to the program.
Earning his PGA Master Professional Status in 2020, Swan is adamant about encouraging his team to pursue further education, such as specializations, certifications, or Master Professional Programs.
"Continued education is essential to the growth of our profession and industry," said Swan. "The technology boom that is erupting in our industry is so strong that if you are not educating yourself on the latest trends, you will be left in the dark."
In addition to his mentoring efforts, Swan is keen on developing a family atmosphere and culture amongst the Mediterra team, comparing it to a sports team. As the leader, Swan takes responsibility for motivating and positioning each team member to where they can excel and grow.
"This philosophy is the main drive for my team and me. Although we are all unique individuals, we function like a family," expressed Swan. “Everyone helps each other, and we all want to see each other succeed."
Swan expressed his gratitude to his mentors, the Mediterra team, and family for all their efforts in helping him receive this recognition.
"I have been very fortunate to have great mentors throughout my career, a highly talented team at Mediterra, and a loving wife & family to support all my efforts, and this award is dedicated to them."
