WEST PALM BEACH, FL - Lee Stroever, PGA Director of Golf at Emerald Dunes Club has been awarded the 2023 South Florida PGA Golf Professional of the Year, the highest honor a South Florida PGA Golf Professional can receive. Stroever leads the 2023 SFPGA Awards Class, which recognizes 12 Professionals.
The Golf Professional of the Year award recognizes a PGA Professional for overall performance, level of service to the Association, leadership, image and ability to inspire fellow professionals and promote the game of golf.
Elected to membership in 2011, Stroever has been the Director of Golf at Emerald Dunes since 2017, with stops at Kiawah Island Club, North Palm Beach Country Club and McArthur Golf Club prior.
“It is overwhelming and almost unbelievable,” Stroever said. “For me, I was lucky to start with really great mentors, guys like Fred Harkness, Bill Davis, Kevin Murphy are my key mentors I have worked for and with. I always looked up to them and saw them win these awards, so it is very gratifying.”
A proud member of the PGA, Stroever lives out what it means to be a PGA Professional each day at his facility, elevating the standard for all professionals. In his role, Stroever has implemented strategies, including his Golf Operations Training Manual, New Employee Orientation and Golf University, to help cultivate a culture of lifelong learning at Emerald Dunes.
In helping grow his employees and the golf operations at Emerald Dunes, Stroever remains passionate about playing the game and pushing those he works alongside to do the same. As a golf Professional, Stroever believes playing ability sets someone apart from other positions at a facility and helps to form trust with a membership.
“I almost mandate my young professionals (at Emerald Dunes) to get involved with the Section, volunteer at events, play in tournaments, " Stroever explained. That brand awareness of getting to know other professionals, it is amazing how those come to bear fruit.”
In addition to his role at Emerald Dunes, Stroever has made a considerable impact on the South Florida PGA Foundation, spending four years as the Junior Golf Chairperson before recently assuming the role of Foundation Vice President. Under his leadership, the SFPGA Junior Golf program grew membership by 70 percent, expanded programming and created a culture of giving back through volunteering amongst PGA Professionals in the Section.
In addition to this award, Stroever received the PGA Professional Development Award in 2020 for his impact on fellow PGA Professionals. Whether it's the work at Emerald Dunes, mentoring young professionals, junior golf or his commitment to the SFPGA Foundation, Stroever’s goal is to leave golf better than he found it.
Lastly, Stroever expressed his gratitude to his team at Emerald Dunes, going as far as saying this award is not only for him but a team award and validation of the great things accomplished on a daily basis.
The Golf Professional of the Year Award is one of the South Florida PGA’s annual awards. Throughout the year, the South Florida PGA will honor the recipients at their individual facilities.
