Cahill and Wells Punch Ticket to the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill
Santa Ana Pueblo, NM - South Florida PGA members Matt Cahill, PGA and Jeremy Wells, PGA finished in the Top 20 at the PGA Professional Championship, earning their first bids into the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill.

The PGA Professional Championship is the national event for club professionals around the country, played over the last four days at Santa Ana and Twin Warriors Golf Clubs in New Mexico. The 312-player field qualifies through the 41 Sections Professional Championship, with 13 coming from the South Florida Section.
Cahill, PGA Head Professional at Seminole Golf Club, earned his ticket to his first PGA Championship after shooting 70-71-71-68, totaling an 8-under, finishing in a tie for second. While this will be his first major championship and PGA TOUR event, Cahill is no stranger to high-level competitions, qualifying for the PGA Professional Championship in each of the past three seasons.
After opening his tournament with a 2-under 70, Cahill coasted in round two, climbing to as high as tie for second on the leaderboard, while remaining well inside the top 20. Entering the third round, Cahill saw his biggest adversity of the week, going 3-over on the front nine before catching fire on the back nine, making four birdies with no bogeys. His final round was no different as he fired a 4-under 68 to secure his PGA Championship berth. Cahill played his final 28 holes at 8-under with zero bogeys.
Entering the final round today outside the Top 20, Wells, PGA Director of Instruction at Cypress Lake Golf Club, fired a 6-under 66 in the final round today to charge up the leaderboard and earn entry into his first PGA Championship. Finishing in seventh place, Wells’ finish comes on the heels of his third place finish at the 2022 SFPGA Section Championship, fourth at the 2021 Florida State Open and third in the 2021 National PGA Assistants Championship.
After making the turn at one-under on the day, Wells knew he had to make magic happen on his back nine if he wanted to tee it up at his first Major Championship. The Fort Myers resident carded two birdies and an eagle to open the back nine, moving well inside the Top 20 and finishing the back nine at five-under.
Cahill and Wells tee it up alongside the 18 other PGA Professionals who qualified for the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill, May 18-21.
