Was today an ordinary day for South Florida PGA Professionals, Tom Patri and Jon Buddenhagen? Not really most would say, however for Tom and Jon this was their third go around!
With the help of PGA Head Golf Professional at Hole In The Wall Golf Course, Jon Buddenhagen, South Florida PGA Teaching Professional, Tom Patri played 140 holes in support of the South Florida PGA Foundation.
At 7:40 AM today Jon and Tom set out on a mission to play as many holes as possible in one day to raise funds and awareness for the South Florida PGA Foundation and the many programs it conducts. Jon serving as Tom's caddie, helped move him around the course, avoiding other players, cleaning clubs, providing yardages, raking bunkers and most importantly cheering him on!
Many ask, why would you do something like this? Tom's response is very simple, ""any day you can help others above what is 'normal' is special. I do this because the game has given me so much in my life. I could never do enough to repay the game. The people it had introduced me to, the places it had allowed me to travel, the life lessons it has taught me. We, any of us, could never ever do enough to repay the game of golf for what it has done for us.""
Helping others is exactly what he has done. Through this one-day golf ""marathon"" so to speak, Tom has raised close to $14,000 to help fund South Florida PGA Foundation programs like Smiling Fore Life and PGA HOPE, where young hospital patients and local veterans have an opportunity to learn the game of golf as a form of therapy providing an escape from the hardships and challenges they are facing.
Tom's selfless act will help impact the lives of more than 1,800 individuals in south Florida this year alone.
His day began at 7:40 AM and ended at 6:54 PM, and his words when he got done were, ""today was a great day!""
Tom is commended by many for his efforts and has already begun planning for next year.
