In its seventh year, the PGA National Day of HOPE spans for over a month, running today through Veteran’s Day (Nov. 11) and culminating on November 30. This annual campaign celebrates our nation’s heroes who protect our freedom, while raising awareness and support for PGA HOPE.
PGA HOPE is designed to introduce Veterans and Active Duty Military to the game of golf as an avenue to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. The free program aspires to create a physically and emotionally healthier Veteran community through a six-week curriculum led by PGA Professionals trained in adaptive golf and military cultural competency.
Ernest “ET” Tornabell IV, retired Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army, touches on what the SFPGA HOPE program brought to his life since graduating in May:
“Participating in the PGA HOPE program has been an immensely rewarding experience, evoking a profound sense of camaraderie and fellowship,” explained Tornabell. “The PGA HOPE program provides a platform where Veterans can come together, heal, and build lasting connections that can blossom into friendships.”
Since 2015, the South Florida PGA Foundation has administered over 90 PGA HOPE programs, impacting over 1,360 lives, which includes over 900 hours of instruction by local PGA Professionals.
“The PGA HOPE program goes far beyond the golf course; it's a lifeline for our Veterans, offering healing, camaraderie, and renewed purpose,” says Executive Director of the South Florida PGA, Geoff Lofstead. “This program truly embodies the core mission of our Foundation as through the game of golf, we can serve, change, and in some cases save the lives of our nation’s heroes.”
All funds raised through the PGA National Day of HOPE Campaign will directly support the 20+ programs annually conducted in south Florida, as well as ongoing opportunities to keep individuals engaged and reaping the benefits the great game has to offer.
