Founded in 2013, DCP is a joint initiative through the Masters Tournament, the United States Golf Association and the PGA of America to grow the game of golf by offering a free nationwide competition to junior golfers everywhere. The SFPGA administers 10 local qualifying events throughout the South Florida Section.
Starting this June, the local qualifying will be held at sites across south Florida and are open to all junior golfers ages 7-15 looking to showcase their driving, chipping and putting abilities. DCP age divisions - (7-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15) - are based on the participant's age as of the National Finals on Sunday, April 2, 2023.
Following local competition, finalists move onto the sub-regional held at either Old Collier Golf Club or Old Marsh Golf Club before the regional qualifier at The Bear’s Club in October. Advancing participants will finish at Augusta National Golf Club held the Sunday prior to the 2023 Masters Tournament.
This April, eight skilled junior golfers, including Angela Nip, an SFPGA Junior Tour winner and sister of 2014 DCP finalist Gloria Nip, will compete at Augusta National by way of the South Florida PGA qualifiers. In 2020, Elyse Meerdink of Tampa won the overall National girls 10-11 division.
