WEST PALM BEACH, FL - Longtime South Florida PGA volunteer Marty Price and Steve Waugh, PGA General Manager of The Old Collier Golf Club have been inducted into the South Florida PGA Hall of Fame, making up the Class of 2024.
The South Florida PGA Hall of Fame has long stood for those who have been recognized for extraordinary leadership and commitment to the game of golf and service to the South Florida PGA and South Florida PGA Foundation.
While Price has made a career in contracting, primarily luxury homes, and currently installs artificial turf with his company Great Greenz Inc., he has committed as much time to growing the game of golf in south Florida as a volunteer for the last 40 years.
“When I first started volunteering, this was not my goal but it is wonderful to have achieved it,” explained Price.” I always wanted to have a commitment through the game of golf, it was just something that I needed to do.”
Price’s volunteerism has taken him on the course, in the media center and to the starting tee for many PGA TOUR, LPGA and PGA TOUR Champion events but his commitment to the South Florida PGA has made him a friendly, recognizable face on the starting tee since the inception of the SFPGA Junior Tour in 1999.
Driven by his fierce love for the game, Price has started over 250 events, both SFPGA Junior Tour and Section events, calling the names of over 50,000 junior golfers and PGA of America Professionals. The 2016 SFPGA Distinguished Award recipient’s impact is felt at every SFPGA event and his dedication to growing the game resonates across the SFPGA Section boundaries.
“I’ve never thought about those terms,” Price said after hearing the amount of people he’s impacted throughout the years. “I was kind of shocked when that was told to me. I’ve had a lot of fun and it has been an awesome ride,” said Price.
A PGA member for 41 years, Waugh has been at The Old Collier Golf Club since 2000, which he helped open as the Director of Golf before becoming the General Manager in 2021. Throughout Waugh’s years of service to the Association, he has exemplified the ultimate PGA Golf Professional trait: The strong desire and affection to serve and help others.
“It is truly rewarding and humbling to be thought of in the same manner as those in our Hall of Fame,” explained Waugh. “To be elected to join such an elite group, to me, is a direct reflection on all the outstanding people I have been blessed to know and work with over my years in golf.”
In addition to serving his membership at The Old Collier Golf Club, Waugh has remained committed to developing young PGA Professionals through mentorship and has been a Director on the South Florida PGA Foundation Board since 2018, regularly leaving his mark by lending a helping hand to every SFPGA Foundation program.
“I have received so much more than I could ever return, I would never have been in this position without gracious influence and assistance,” said Waugh.
This year’s Hall of Fame induction caps a career of highlights for Waugh which include being named the 2021 South Florida PGA Golf Professional of the Year, 2020 Southwest Chapter Golf Professional of the Year and General Chairman for the USGA Women’s Mid-Amtuer Championship in 1988, all while remaining a high-level player, competing in the 2010 Senior PGA Championship.
The South Florida PGA Hall of Fame inducts new members each year and Price and Waugh were recently surprised with their honor at the SFPGA Senior Pro-Pro where Price volunteered and Waugh played. The SFPGA will later honor each individually in front of family, friends, members and colleagues.
