ATLANTIS, FL – Jeff Waber, PGA Director of Golf at Broken Sound – Old Course, has been awarded the 2022 South Florida PGA Golf Professional of the Year Award. As the highest honor a South Florida PGA Golf Professional can receive, Waber leads the 2022 SFPGA Awards class.
The South Florida PGA annually recognizes a PGA Professional for overall performance, level of service to the Association, leadership, image and ability to inspire fellow professionals and promote the game of golf.
A PGA member for 18 years, Waber has been at Broken Sound Golf Club’s Old Course since 2007, where he began as the Head Professional before becoming the Director of Golf in 2015. Having spent his whole career in south Florida, prior to Broken Sound, Waber was the head professional at Adios Golf Club and an assistant at Bear Lakes Country Club.
“I am proud and humbled to be selected as the 2022 Golf Professional of the Year for our Section,” said Waber. “The 41 previous winners dating back to 1980 are some of the most highly respected people in the Country. I find myself awestruck by receiving this award and thankful to those who laid the path before me and invited me to join the ranks.”
In his years of service to the Association and his facilities, Waber has always made it his goal to be the ultimate team player. In keeping with his “walk-the-walk” mentality, Waber excels in every job he does; is never too big for a job and pushes his staff to do the same, constantly bettering those around him.
“My thoughts are very simple: We are the leaders in the game of golf,” explained Waber. “Playing, teaching and promoting the game are the pillars we, the PGA, stand for.”
In addition to his role at Broken Sound, Waber is an advocate for playing the game, keeping an active tournament schedule each year. Waber believes his members, clients and customers expect PGA Professionals to have the skill-set and drive to play the game. The essentials of playing, teaching, and giving back to the PGA through service helps define Waber as the most well-rounded PGA Professional.
“It is critical to play and help keep our PGA credibility high,” noted Waber. “I want to be remembered as a man, father, husband and brother who gave back to the game that gave me so much. I am lucky to do what I do everyday.”
In addition to this award, Waber was selected as the 2022 Southeast Chapter Golf Professional of the Year. Waber has also been involved in Section leadership, serving as the Section Tournament Chairperson and most recently, the President of the Southeast Chapter.
