Played on PGA National’s Match and Staple courses, 27 two-person teams of South Florida PGA Professionals will set out to make as many birdies as possible from sunset to sundown, playing in a doubles golf team format. Each birdie is matched by donor pledges, with a goal of raising $600,000 to benefit the two impactful organizations.
The South Florida PGA Foundation administers outreach programs including,
PGA HOPE,
Smiling Fore Life,
Habitat for Humanity, the
Foundation Scholarship,
junior golf and more. All these programs are designed to use golf as a tool to enhance the lives of local military veterans, children in hospitals, as well as families.
Jack and Barbara Nicklaus founded the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation in 2004 to provide world-class, pediatric care to children in Palm Beach County and beyond. The Foundation supports Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, which has helped children from every state in the union and 119 countries.
Alongside the PGA TOUR, Jack and Barbara Nicklaus helped launch Play Yellow in 2019 with a mission to raise $100 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals over a five-year period. Honda Classic Cares is honored to further their partnership with the Nicklaus’ and support their efforts to impact the lives of children in local hospitals.
This year, Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation will distribute funds amongst Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami and Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida in Fort Myers.
The event’s inaugural year in 2022 raised more than $460,000 due in part to Eric Veilleux, PGA and Ryan Fountain, PGA of The Bear’s Club, who raised more than $77,000.
“To have another opportunity to support two organizations that give back to the local community is incredibly fulfilling, especially being able to do it through the game which has given us so much,” Veilleux expressed.
After being asked if they were ready to defend their title as top fundraisers, Veilleux responded, “We are definitely looking forward to defending our title and making a greater impact on our community through the game of golf.”
