WEST PALM BEACH, FLA (November 17, 2021) – The City of West Palm Beach and the West Palm Golf Community Trust (“Trust”) broke ground on the future West Palm Golf Park clubhouse. The 20,000 sq. ft. facility will complement the Gil Hanse designed golf park now under construction. The clubhouse is being built by Mason Development and Construction and will feature amenities including lockers, event space, and a full-service restaurant and bar with sweeping views of the course. The restaurant will also serve as a public and private event venue. Additionally, the South Florida PGA Headquarters will be housed in a separate building with a unique space for youth to gather for junior golf programs. The West Palm Golf Park will be located at the site of the former West Palm Beach Municipal Golf Course, just south of Forest Hill Boulevard, east of Interstate 95, west of South Dixie Highway, and north of the Lake Worth “C-51” Canal.
“We are so pleased to join the West Palm Golf Community Trust in breaking ground on the clubhouse to complement the future West Palm Golf Park,” said West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James. “I expect that the clubhouse will be a popular community gathering place for the residents of our city. The City of West Palm Beach is grateful to the Trust for its outstanding efforts in fundraising. We are appreciative to the Trust for working so diligently to develop this fantastic golf facility for all residents of West Palm Beach to enjoy.”
“The West Palm Golf Park presented a unique opportunity for an innovative public/private partnership to come to life as a model for the golf industry and communities around the county,” said West Palm Golf Community Trust President Seth Waugh. “Our group of generous thought leaders formed a true partnership with the City of West Palm Beach towards re-imagining what municipal golf can look like in the future. The response to our concept has been extraordinary. The foundation will fully fund, endow and operate the facility and develop programs and a golf experience that will serve everyone in the community. It will be not only welcoming but also a world class facility that is intentionally invitational to everyone from every background. From every type of person to every skill level, from experienced golfers to absolute beginners, from seniors to juniors, all at affordable prices. We look forward to working with the city and the South Florida PGA Section as we develop programs that will benefit a variety of people and promote this great game far into the future.”
The project vision features a Gil Hanse designed 18-hole course, a 9-hole short course similar to his acclaimed “Cradle” course at Pinehurst, a full short game area and two putting greens, a practice range, clubhouse and facilities. The West Palm Golf Park will have a major focus on junior golfers with world class coaching and golf experiences at affordable prices.
The city and the Trust are partners in this initiative. The project is being funded through individual charitable contributions. The Trust was established as a non-profit organization to raise the funding to build and operate the course. The committee leading the Trust is made up of local business, community and golf leaders. The city and Trust have entered into a 50-year lease with an option to renew for an additional 20 years.
