More than 95 amateur golfers from Palm Beach County came together May 6th to help raise funds to support local veterans through the game of golf. The fifth annual PGA HOPE Classic presented by Cadillac, Raymond James and SBA was held at The Loxahatchee Club in Jupiter.
Unfortunately, this year’s 18-hole tournament was canceled due to extreme weather conditions but players enjoyed lunch and conversation with old friends before the winners of the raffle and silent auction were announced.
“It’s a pleasure, it’s an honor and it’s a privilege to be part of this event,” said Rob Torrington, SFPGA HOPE Committee member. “Our goal is to raise money for veterans to help them cope and adapt back into civilian life; and deal with both the physical and mental disabilities that they may be struggling with by hosting programs like PGA HOPE.” Rob is a great example of the common participant- a local businessman and philanthropist hoping to support their community. Just like the SFPGA Foundation’s mission: to change lives through the game of golf in their local community.
The results of the day are designed to help fund the South Florida PGA Foundation’s PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) program. Which to date has impacted over 700 local military veterans through free golf instruction taught by PGA Professionals.
This year the PGA HOPE Classic raised $73,000 for the South Florida PGA Foundation’s PGA HOPE program. You can find media from the day’s events on all South Florida PGA media outlets including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
