Last night, the South Florida PGA hosted their Annual Awards & Hall of Fame Night, recognizing the movers and shakers of their PGA Section. Awarding those who have exhausted their efforts in the golf shop, on the course and around their community by giving back. Fifteen out of the 1,800 members of the South Florida PGA Section were recognized for their talents and passion for the game of golf. Supported by Discover Global Network, the evening included a cocktail hour to preempt the dinner and show emceed by Golf Channel's Tim Rosaforte. Not a stranger to this event, Rosaforte has hosted the SFPGA Awards & Hall of Fame Night five times and was inducted in 2012 to the SFPGA Hall of Fame. Each award winner was recognized and invited to the stage to share a few words and thanks, and to receive their reward.
The most notable awards given include our Golf Professional of the Year and our Hall of Fame Inductees. Ken McMaster, PGA, General Manager of Miromar Lakes Golf Club was awarded the highest honor a PGA Professional can receive - Golf Professional of the Year. McMaster, has shown his commitment to upholding the values of the PGA of America and mentoring younger Members and Associates throughout his career. McMaster currently serves as the Section Membership Outreach Chairperson and is a Master Professional and has previously won the Bill Strausbaugh Award in 2017.
Two stars of the evening included our Hall of Fame inductees, Warren Bottke, PGA and Brendan Cunningham. Bottke has been teaching the game of golf for 43 years, but currently serves as a PGA Teaching Professional at PGA National Golf Club. Over those four decades, Warren has taught 25 touring professionals, mentored countless PGA Professionals and Apprentices and in 2017 teamed up with DaVinci Sports to open a golf academy in Beijing, China. Bottke shared his personal life journey to the audience last night, laying the foundation for his career of investing in the next generation of golfers.
Also inducted last night, Brendan Cunningham of Naples was recognized for his 30 years of serving as the Official Starter for the Section. Brendan is known for his presence on the first tee, setting the tone and pace for every event he served as a starter. Cunningham dedicates his free time to the First Tee chapter of Naples and has also served as an official starter for the PGA and LPGA Tour. Last night, Cunningham expressed how last night was one of the best nights of his life, thanking friends and family for their support and imploring all in attendance to give back to the game.
