KOVELESKY AND CLANTON WIN CHALLENGE EVENT #2

ATLANTIS, Fla. – This weekend, the South Florida PGA Junior Challenge Tour presented by The Honda Classic held Challenge Event #2 at Sandridge Golf Club in Vero Beach.  Two of South Florida’s top young juniors took home big wins over the weekend.

Miami Lakes native Luke Clanton went back to back this weekend after winning Challenge Event #1 in February and capturing the overall title this weekend.  Vero Beach native Ben Wiggins opened up round one with a 3-under-par 69 on the narrow Dunes Course at Sandridge Golf Club.  Wiggins birdied the 10th, 11th and 12th holes on Saturday to put together the low first round while giving himself a one stroke lead over Clanton who fired a 2-under-par 70.  Sunday’s final round featured a stiff wind that challenged many of the players.  Clanton was able to steady the ship and fire a final round 79 to capture the overall boy’s title.  Wellington native Cameron Owens would go on to take home the boy’s 13-15 age division, while Wellington native Dylan Skinner would take home the boy’s 16-18 age division title.

Boca Raton native Chloe Kovelesky has been under a lot of pressure this week.  Kovelesky is gearing up to represent South Florida at Augusta National Golf Club in two weeks for the Drive, Chip and Putt finals.  This is also the first time the 10 year old has played a Challenge Tour event in the overall girl’s division.  Kovelesky fired an opening round 81 to find herself two strokes back of Weston native Ana Maria Lopez.  Kovelesky put together a strong final round 79 to capture the overall girl’s title by five strokes.  Jupiter native Kiley Malmberg would go on to win the girl’s 13-15 age division, while Lopez would take home the girl’s 16-18 age division title.

North Palm Beach native NaShawn Tyson shot rounds of 75-77 to capture the boy’s 11-12 age division.  Coral Gables native Alex Dalmau finished second, while Nicholas Prieto would finish in 3rd place.  Jupiter native Stephanie Barbaglia fired rounds of 84-77 to capture the girl’s 11-12 age division, while Port St Lucie native Brianna Castaldi would take home second place.
