ATLANTIS, Fla. – This weekend, the South Florida PGA Junior Championship Tour presented by The Honda Classic held event #3 at Indian Spring Country Club in Boynton Beach on the West Course. With temperatures in the upper 80’s and the course in outstanding shape, low scores were in abundance at Championship Event #3.
Jupiter native Ryder Sutcliffe, Port St. Lucie native Fletcher Wunderlich and Boca Raton native Krit Oukosavanna each opened up round one with a 3-under par 68. Fort Lauderdale native Miles Castoro and Lake Worth native Jordan Reeves each shot an opening round even-par 71 to find themselves three strokes off the lead entering the final round. Sunday’s final round featured a wide array of outstanding play from the boys division. Port St. Lucie native and junior standout Sachin Kumar posted a final round 2-under par 69 to post an even par 142 tournament total. Palm City native Alex Vogelsong, who shot an opening round 1-over par 72, shot a final round 3-under par 68. Wunderlich was able to grind out a 2-over par 73 on Sunday to force a playoff with Vogelsong. Wunderlich was able to capture the Overall Boys title in a sudden death playoff and capture his first South Florida PGA Junior Tour victory.
Tamarac native Jillian Bourdage opened up round one with an even par 71 to take the round one lead in the overall girls division. Boynton Beach native Zora Gittens fired a 3-over par 74 to find herself in second place entering Sunday’s final round. Wellington native Mary Janiga entered the final round four strokes behind Bourdage. Jangia was able to fire an outstanding 3-under par 68 to capture the Overall Girls division over Bourdage.
The SFPGA Junior Tour presented by The Honda Classic is a membership-based tour open to boys and girls ages 11-18 in South Florida with the aspirations and skill levels to compete at the High School and Collegiate level and features some of South Florida’s most talented junior golfers. The Junior Tour offers twenty-five two day championship events for junior golfers in South Florida. The 25 events are divided between the Championship Tour, an invitational tour featuring extended yardages, and the Challenge Tour.
