JUPITER, Fla. – The 28th Annual South Florida Senior Open presented by Cure Putters was contested over both courses at Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club at Old Trail with the 50-59 and 60-69 age divisions competing on the Fazio design and the 70-74 and 75+ age divisions competing on the adjacent Hills course.
Gene Fieger, PGA Director of Golf at the Hideout Golf Club in Naples Fla., fired two consecutive three-under-par rounds of 69 on the Fazio course to claim the individual first place honors this afternoon as he recorded birdies on eleven, fourteen and sixteen to win the championship division by a margin of four strokes. In the 60-69 age division, Jerry Tucker of Stuart, Fla. successfully defended his title this week at Jonathan’s Landing as he opened up the tournament with a five-under-par round of 67. Tucker went on to win the division by a margin of 4 strokes and recorded a two-day-total of 141. Steve Sponder of Cooper City, Fla took home first place gross honors as one of seven amateurs in the championship division. Sponder finished off his afternoon firing a 70 to post a two-day total of 144 and take home the hardware.
The 70-74 division featured SFPGA Life Member Roger Kennedy as he worked his way to the top of the leader-board on the Hills course firing a two-day total of 144. Gary Benoit of Palm City, Fla. claimed 75+ division honors completing his tournament with a final round 67 to post a tournament score of 140 in the ideal conditions this morning.
