Thirty-four teams competed in the third annual National Car Rental Foundation Pro-Am on Monday, February 27 held at Fort Lauderdale Country Club (North Course). Each team was comprised of one PGA Member/Apprentice and one amateur. The format was one best ball of the two player team, with amateurs receiving 90% of their handicap. Taking home the overall team title was PGA Assistant Golf Professional Josiah Singletary from the Jim McLean Golf School-Doral and his amateur partner Tim Miller. They posted an impressive 9-under-par 63 and tied for low round honors with Apprentice Michael Berger and his amateur partner Brian Mallonee. A scorecard playoff was used to determine the winning team, with Singletary/Miller having the better overall back nine score. Along with the team champions, Apprentice and Assistant Golf Professional Michael Kartrude from The Bear's Club was the low pro for the event after posting a 3-under-par 69. In addition to the event winners, this Pro-Am helped raised over $4,000 for the South Florida PGA Foundation. The South Florida PGA Foundation, founded in 2004, has more than tripled in size over the past six years with a mission to serve the south Florida community. Programs conducted through the Foundation include junior golf, charitable gifting and scholarship, Smiling Fore Life, PGA H.O.P.E. (helping our patriots everywhere) and community outreach with Habitat for Humanity being one of the main beneficiaries. NAPLES, Fla - The third annual Mixed Team Event was contested on December 12 at Bonita Bay Club of Naples (Sabal Course). The format consisted of one PGA Professional and one PGA/LPGA Professional teamed together and competing in an 18-hole four-ball stroke play competition. The team of PGA Professional Dennis Meyer and LPGA Professional Terry-Jo Myers posted an 8-under-par 64 to finish atop the leaderboard. Their round was highlighted by a back nine score of 6-under-par 30. Finishing in a tie for second place were three teams at 6-under-par 66. Scott Newhouse, PGA and Melissa Dziabo, LPGA - Chris Kaufman, PGA and Jackie Kaufman, PGA - David Kent, PGA and Tara McKenna, PGA/LPGA. DELRAY BEACH, Fla: Peter Mogg, PGA Assistant Golf Professional at The Club at Olde Cypress was victorious in the fifth annual Global Golf Sales Cup with a score of +5 quota points. The event was hosted at Gleneagles Country Club (Legends Course) in Delray Beach on Friday, October 28. Originally scheduled for early October and postponed due to Hurricane Matthew, the Global Golf Sales Cup is a stableford event with each player being assigned a point quota. The players point quota was determined by their stroke average from the 2016 playing season. The number of stableford points accumulated for the round was subtracted from the point quota leaving the player with either a positive or negative score for the event. The goal is to have a positive (+) score. Mogg accumulated 39 stableford points with a point quota of 34. Coming in a tie for second place were Adam Miller, Jan Urso and Thomas Cleaver with a score of +1 quota points. All players in the tournament field collected a purse check. In addition to supporting the event, Steve Sponder of Global Golf Sales conducted a Closest-to-the-Hole contest on #17 of the Legends Course, with payouts to the first and second place finishes. Joe Beezup from Country Club of Mirasol was the overall winner finishing 4’-2 ½” from the hole. Jerry Tucker was second at 5’-6 ½”.
