Thirty-four teams competed in the third annual National Car Rental Foundation Pro-Am on Monday, February 27 held at Fort Lauderdale Country Club (North Course). Each team was comprised of one PGA Member/Apprentice and one amateur. The format was one best ball of the two player team, with amateurs receiving 90% of their handicap. Taking home the overall team title was PGA Assistant Golf Professional Josiah Singletary from the Jim McLean Golf School-Doral and his amateur partner Tim Miller. They posted an impressive 9-under-par 63 and tied for low round honors with Apprentice Michael Berger and his amateur partner Brian Mallonee. A scorecard playoff was used to determine the winning team, with Singletary/Miller having the better overall back nine score. Along with the team champions, Apprentice and Assistant Golf Professional Michael Kartrude from The Bear’s Club was the low pro for the event after posting a 3-under-par 69.
In addition to the event winners, this Pro-Am helped raised over $4,000 for the South Florida PGA Foundation. The South Florida PGA Foundation, founded in 2004, has more than tripled in size over the past six years with a mission to serve the south Florida community. Programs conducted through the Foundation include junior golf, charitable gifting and scholarship, Smiling Fore Life, PGA H.O.P.E. (helping our patriots everywhere) and community outreach with Habitat for Humanity being one of the main beneficiaries.
Special thanks to PGA Director of Golf Mark VanDyck, PGA General Manager Michael O’Brien and their entire staff at Fort Lauderdale Country Club for a great day. The golf course and putting greens were in excellent shape and provided a nice test for players. We would also like to recognize and thank National Car Rental for their continued support of this event. For complete results from the event click HERE.
